A Miniature Fiber Tip Polystyrene Microsphere Temperature Sensor With High Sensitivity

Abstract A fiber-optic temperature sensor based on fiber tip polystyrene microsphere is proposed. The structure can be formed simply by placing and fixing a the center of an optical tip. Since has much larger thermal expansivity, used for high-sensitive measurement. By illuminating with broadband light source through Fabry-Perot interference between front back surfaces microsphere, phase difference (OPD) or wavelength shift extraction temperature. Temperature measurement experiment shows that, using probe spherical diameter about 91.7 µm, high OPD-temperature sensitivity −0.617 96 nm/°C good linearity 0.991 6 were achieved in range 20°C–70°C.
